Tracking the June 2025 Heatwave & What It Means for Your Fuel Site

Last week’s record-shattering heat in the Northeast was just the beginning. NOAA now warns that dangerous heat is sweeping much of the Lower 48 this week, with heat-index values soaring well past 100 °F, and even topping 110 °F in spots like Phoenix and Chandler, Ariz. When it feels 10–15 degrees hotter than the thermometer reads, your fuel site faces more than just sunburned customers:
Refinery slowdowns: Equipment efficiency drops and yields shrink when ambient temperatures soar.
Tank pressure risks: Fuel expands in extreme heat, raising vapor pressure inside storage tanks.
Condensation hazards: Hot, humid air accelerates water buildup in tanks, leading to microbial growth and clogged filters.
Equipment wear: Hoses dry out and crack, meter readings drift off, and nozzle springs weaken under sustained heat.
Even if you’re outside the Southwest “danger zone,” pockets of extreme caution (90–103°F) and danger (103–125°F) are in the forecast for major cities nationwide through July 6.
