Opening Day in Florence Township, New Jersey is all about tradition, hometown pride, and the simple joy of community coming together. This year, E.O. Habhegger proudly joined in as a sponsor, backing the volunteers who keep Florence Township Baseball thriving.

One of those volunteers is Mike Pepe, part of the EOH family since 2021 and a local coaching legend. Mike has coached youth baseball here for 25 seasons, since his oldest son started playing in 2000. His youngest son wrapped up in 2016, but Mike kept coming back, season after season, because, as he puts it,
“I get so much more out of this than the players do. It keeps me alive, out of the house and off the couch. I’m happy to be a part of this league and will do what I do, as long as I can."
Mike has coached every level, from T-ball rookies to American Legion competitors, and he runs free clinics and workouts all off-season. His philosophy is straightforward:
“Any player willing to put in the work is worth the time to help them improve. I often tell parents, ‘I didn’t do anything—they did all the work, I just talked.
That grounded, supportive mindset echoes the way we operate at Habhegger. Backing Florence Township Baseball isn’t just about putting a name on a banner. It’s about believing in hard work, commitment, and making a real impact.
If a player is passionate about improving, I will work with them as often as I’m able. Some of my favorite players over the years were not the greatest athletes and didn’t have as much experience as their teammates, but they worked so hard to improve that their effort is what stood out to me.’”
At Habhegger, we believe in meeting people where they are, working from the ground up, and helping them grow. Whether it’s on the ballfield or on the job site, we know that potential plus effort is where real progress happens.
Florence Township Baseball is open to kids ages 4 to 15 and is run entirely by volunteers. From T-ball to Babe Ruth, the league offers opportunities at every skill level, building not just better athletes, but better community members.

We’re proud to stand with Mike and everyone who keeps the league, and its traditions, going strong.
